As most of azalea have bush port type, what will be the best technique to use for thickening the trunk and also develop a good nebari. Should we let grow free the lateral lower branches to be sacrifice branches or control them and only focus on the main line trunk to the top crown?
From what I’ve seen of field grown azaleas, many many sacrifice branches are used all along the trunk. When the trunks are large, sacrifice branches are used to thicken primary branches too. I’ll share some photos of azaleas fresh from the field as well as more developed trees in a few upcoming posts.
Great!, please upload and show to us as much as possible detailed photo and pic of these field grown azalea so we will try to absorb the different techniques.
