Black hills spruce in San Francisco Bay Area?

Anyone ever tried black hills spruce as bonsai in the SF Bay Area? Saw a photo of a gorgeous group planting using them and thought I might do one too.

But they’re USDA Zone 3-6 and SF area is 9-10. I hear white pine need colder winters and therefore don’t do particularly well here (the alternative being black pine), I wonder if the same issue would be likely with black hills spruce as with white pines.

That said any suggestions of a tree that might do well in the SF Bay Area if the this spruce won’t?

I’m not familiar with densata, but a number of picea glauca grow in the area (alberta spruce is a common one). If you can find a black hills spruce as a test case I think it would be worth a try.
