I picked this Hinoki cypress up from a vendor at the Redwood Empire show back in August. It’s about 18” tall in a black plastic pot. I planned to let it grow some and thicken the trunk for a while before attempting to make it into a bonsai. It’s been doing fine and seemingly grew well with new green growth tips through the summer and into the fall. Last week or two I noticed the bases of some of the fans of leaves were browning. I suspect maybe I’ve been overwatering? Thoughts otherwise? Thanks.
This is completely natural for this time of year. In general, if old foliage yellows, it’s not a problem; if new foliage yellows, it might be a problem.
Looks like a fun tree!
Thank you Jonas. That’s good news.
