Is there any way to revive this?

I’m new to growing bonsai and started my first black pine last year. Just a couple months ago, it started browning. Now it’s completely brown. I went to look at the roots. They are very long, black and stringy but they don’t smell bad. Even tugging a little on the main root, it is pliable and doesn’t break off. I’m having high hopes that perhaps it’s dormant and it will revive but not sure if it’s a lost cause.

it definitely looks dead. time to think about what the cause of death was and what you can do to avoid this with your next tree. if at first you dont succeed, …
